The Wave is a sandstone rock formation located in Arizona, near the border with Utah in the United States, it is famous among hikers and photographers for its wavy shapes. The BLM has changed this rule and since the start of 2021, 64 people can now access the site each day, via a lottery system (draw): 48 permits are awarded via an Advanced Lottery, which takes place each month and allows you to obtain a permit 4 months in advance.
About 1.2 billion years ago, at the end of the Proterozoic, 4,000 meters of sediment and lava accumulated in a shallow sea. Around 725 million years ago, these rocks were uplifted and deformed to become a mountain range

Why do I need a permit to visit The Wave?

Because it can get extremely hot in the summer, the best times to hike The Wave are in the spring and fall. Winter weather can be quite unpredictable, but if you are lucky enough to have favorable conditions, winter hiking is also possible.
The entire Coyote Buttes area is incredibly fragile and designated as protected land. Only 64 people are allowed to visit The Wave daily to continue to preserve these rock formations for generations to come.
